fall feels in the twin cities

if, two posts in, you're already wondering if all we do is watch sports and travel, you wouldn't be entirely wrong. but it's fall! between the world series and college football, what's not to love?

a big reason why fall is the bomb is that andrew and i are both proud alums of the university of nebraska (GBR!) and like to go to as many home and away games each year as possible. this year, the timing was right and we were due back to minneapolis so the minnesota/nebraska game came on the perfect weekend!

we stayed with one of my girlfriends from high school and she was happy to show us her favorite local haunts. shortly after arriving, we checked out the blue door pub. it's hard to say what i liked best - the incredible loaded buffalo chicken totchos (yes, that means tater tots instead of chips. yes, it's as good as it sounds) or the cease and desist burger (the one that was so similar in recipe and name to the big mac that mcdonald's sent a cease and desist for them to rename it...crazy, right?).

apologies for the somewhat blurry photo. but just look at these babies! brb, recreating in my kitchen now.

we were up bright and early the next day to begin pre-game celebrations and meet up with my cousin and his wife along with some nebraska friends who also made the trip. we finally saw the huskers snag a win (it's been a rough year) and it was storybook weather on top of it. sigh.

love running into family in random situations. so good to see these two.

how sweet is this guy? his name is sam and he was relaxing all cool at a neighboring tailgate. adorable!

after the victory was ours (sorry, gophers!), we walked to surly brewery which is just a mile or two down the road from the stadium. this place was so stinkin' cool! a huge open dining space with german bierhaus-style tables backs up to windows into the brewery operations on one side and into a spacious outdoor area complete with firepits, bags games and bulb string lights to set the mood on the other. needless to say, i was in love. also, SO many good beers like todd the axe man and overrated. do yourself a favor and try these as soon as you can find them.

our sunday morning brunchin' sesh was brought to us by the copper hen, a fairly new joint on eat street. they had the most delicious homemade bread and jam appetizer to share and i think i ate my weight in all varieties :/. the menu has quite the variety given the theme of the place and i would love to come back for lunch or dinner. sadly, i was too full to indulge in their fresh pastries so that's probably a must-do next time too. maybe it was a sign...

not saying we were the good luck charm for this game, but...

all in all, it was a fun fall weekend discovering new places and revisiting old favorites. already looking forward to our next road game adventure! hint: it may be a little colder this time around. have a great last weekend of october!
